The Brown Pub, previously named New Zealand's Best Country Hotel at the HANZ Awards for Excellence, is located right in the middle of town and offers the Main Bar, the Fireside Bar, a family restaurant, fresh, clean affordable accommodation and naturally a great time. We are also very proud to be awarded the Lion Breweries Beer Master award for demonstrating excellence in beer quality and presentation - six years running. So you know the beer is going to be good.
The Main Bar has seen a complete facelift and has 9 TV screens and 2 Sky decoders so you’ll never miss your favourite big game or race. Complete with TAB, jackpot gaming machines, jukebox, dartboard and a sports tipping competition there’s always something to do and plenty going on with Karaoke Fridays and regular events all year round.
The Fireside Bar has also been modernised and now boasts the pool table and a cosy log burner as well as tables if you fancy a romantic meal by the fire.
A newly designed restaurant menu, which includes all the traditional pub favourites as well as a range of more sophisticated choices from our fully qualified head chef means that The Brown is the perfect place to host your next function, whatever your budget. High standards are in place with Trev (a butcher for 16 years) placing great importance on quality produce, preparation and cleanliness. Like everyone, the Brown are aware of the emphasis on healthy food as well as great taste and to this end have managed to eliminate a whopping 75% of deep fried food from the menu while still satisfying the hungriest diner.
There are 12 rooms upstairs including super kings, twins, a triple and a quad and the shared facilities include showers, a communal TV lounge and a spacious outdoor deck to relax on and watch the world pass by. Our freshly painted rooms boast comfortable beds, clean fresh linen and warm duvets. The community style atmosphere is perfect for group bookings such as sports trips, weekend getaway adventures, or just a bunch of friends on a winter skiing or snowboarding holiday.
