Newcomers Multicultural Play Group

A Newcomers Multicultural Play Group is being set up in Mid Canterbury and families new to the area, especially those from overseas, are invited to attend the group’s first meeting on Monday 21 June.
 
The Play Group is being run by Mid Canterbury Plunket in conjunction with Grow Mid Canterbury, the New Zealand Newcomers Network and Presbyterian Support Services and will be held at the new Ashburton Plunket Rooms at 222 Cameron Street from 12 noon until 2pm.
 
It is envisaged the Play Group will be held on a regular basis and will feature a variety of interesting speakers on topics relating to the Ashburton district and the local community.
 
Spokesperson, Helen Whiting (Community Karitane with Plunket) said the group has been set up to recognise the growing number of new families to the district, and the issues they face, especially isolation when language and locations can be barriers.  She urges anyone who knows someone who would benefit from meeting others in similar situations to let them know about the group.
